The making process for each tile is very time-intensive – every one is hand rolled, cut and finished before a layer of white slip is applied with a soft brush. The design is then hand drawn with a pottery needle using a very old technique known as ‘sgraffito’. The colours and details are then carefully hand painted with small wolfhair brushes in a wide variety of underglazes. Each tile has to be very slowly dried out to avoid major warping issues before being bisque fired, and then dipped in a clear lead-free glaze, cleaned up and fired again for the glaze to mature.
Tiles are made on a hand cut base as standard. As with all handmade products, slight variations will occur, be it subtle irregularities in shape, shade or crazing. This will not affect the performance or serviceability of the tile. In fact, it adds to the unique characteristics of a handmade product. You may even spot the tile-maker’s fingerprints on the underside.
Suitable for: Interior rooms, Kitchen Splashbacks and Bathrooms and wetrooms.
